    Does it see an RPM signal in megatune while you're cranking? Does the fuel pump prime? You should also see a short pulse width on the pulse width gauge when you first turn the key on and the fuel pump primes for that 2 seconds.

    I guess you've set up the cracking pulsewidths, etc? Even with the megasquirt not connected to the ignition control module at all it should still be getting spark as it'll run on its own with a base timing of 10* BTDC with just power and the crank position sensor hooked to the ignition control module like normal.

      I'm an idiot... I just went over the wiring diagram again and I was hooking the MS fuel pump lead to the 12V+ instead of ground, which would explain why the pump wouldn't go on at all.

      I was able to get a tach signal, upon cranking the engine the MS did see the rise in RPM and go into cranking mode, and I could see the injector LED flashing on the MS. It probably would have fired if it had fuel pressure.

      What are you using for power for the MS? The ASSY port on the fuse panel is power on run but not cranking, so I'm using that for the ignition bypass relay, but I cannot use it for the MS. For testing purposes I just hooked it straight to the battery. I guess for rewiring the fuel pump relay I should use the same source that I would use for the MS.

      I know you're running the MS-I, but is there any chance you could upload your msq file so I can see your fuel map, enrichment tables, etc?

      BTW for those working up the nerve to tear into their electrical system. I'm planning on putting up a complete tutorial when I finally get this running properly.

        Be careful with the fuel pump relay wiring...for some reason our cars have the +12 switched to the fuel pump relay coil rather than the ground. The coil in the relay is just grounded to chassis ground all the time and then the PCM switches the +12 on/off. You'll have to reverse that to make it work with megasquirt since megasquirt switches the ground on/off which is more normal. What I did was cut the control wire going to the PCM at the fuel pump relay, tie it directly to the +12 on the contact part of the relay that feeds the pump. I then cut the ground that was connected to the chassis ground for the relay coil and ran that to the megasquirt fuel pump pin.

        That would be great if you wrote up a guide for the MS-II. I think it would really open the doors to 3.4 guys wanting to run MS-II. I was going to add it to my site but it would have just been baised on reading up on it as I don't have a MS-II to actually test.

          Got it... What are you using for power to the actual MS ECM? I would imagine if I tried to use the +12 on the fuel pump relay it'd be a little noisy. I could probably use the +12 on the FP relay to trigger a relay that directly connects the battery to the MS. Thoughts?

            Oh yea...sorry, forgot to respond to that.

            I'm just using one of the injector +12 lines. There are two: one for each bank, and they both have a 7.5amp fuse stock in the underhood fuse box.

              IT'S ALIVE!!!!!

              Runs like crap but its alive! I finally got around to finishing hooking up the MS II to the Camaro. Well... I have the power for the ECU rigged to the battery still, but I'll fix that tomorrow. Got the FP wired up and hooked up the MS wiring harness and it fired right up. Sounded like a top fuel dragster, but most likely because the fuel and timing tables are way off. I'll start programming it tomorrow.

                Awesome! You're the 1st 3.4 MS-II that I know of. It's probably tuned way too rich at idle which is why it's running like that.

                  Yea it's running way rich. I'm waiting on my new Innovate LC1 to arrive, then I'll start tuning. I did make the mistake of wiring one of the IAC coils backwards so I couldn't get the idle below 1500 :-P. Works now though. Hopefully I'll get it on a dyno within the next couple of weeks. I'll post the results as well as MSQ, VEX and log files soon.

                  For those that want to install a MS-II on their ride, I'm going to build a tutorial site showing EXACTLY what I did so others can duplicate it.

                  Thanks again for all your help Turbo, it would have been much more difficult without you.

                    So how well does that IAC control work? It would be a nice feature to have but I didn't bother getting the MS-II just for that.

                    I'm using the LC-1 too; it works great.

                    That would be awesome if you were to do a write-up. I was going to do one but it would have just been based on documentation. You're more qualified to do the write-up since you actually hooked it up and got it running. If you want to get some wiring diagrams, etc together I can make one simular to what I did with my MS-I setup.

                      I thought there is an upgrade for the MS1 to use a stepper IAC. I bought a used MS1 and it has both the DIS function and stepper IAC, but haven't checked it out yet.

                      I feel the same way, though, I wasn't going to spend the extra cash just for the IAC - until I found this used unit, I was just going to make the PWM modification to the TB/manifold.

                        The IAC control actually works great. I can set the idle at whatever I want by modifying the steps at a certain coolant temp. I have a computer unfriendly cam in the car and set the idle to around 550-600 and it sounded like a real nasty small block... until I stepped on the gas. I just got my hush power II muffler yesterday to replace the cat with, and my WB O2 yesterday, so I'm gonna have the shop next door install it (I'm too lazy and they owe me a favor :) ), and I'll start tuning Sunday. Can't wait to get off the factory PCM, I bet there's 20-30 hp trapped in there that the factory PCM can't get to. I'ts just screaming LET ME OUT!!!

                        How are you guys controlling your idle with the MS-I? I didn't realize this was part of the upgraded features of the MS-II. How's the hybrid setup coming along Forced?

                        In regards to the writeup Turbo, I'll put 2 sections in there for MS-I and MS-II. Do you have pics of your installation? Now I just have to figure what I want for a domain for the writeup site.

                          I haven't actually hooked up an MS yet, but have researched until my eyes burn, lol.

                          I bought a new MS1 for my turbo 3.1, but blew the engine before I installed it, and sold it to help pay for the rebuild(s) - yes the engine was rebuilt twice. I was using stock tuning and RRFPR, but didn't help when I hit the rev limiter and the ECM went lean due to pulling fuel for rev cut.

                          I found another MS1 for cheap and bought it, but for now I'm going to use the stock tunable OBD1 while N/A. Shortly before the engine gets pulled to prepare for boost, the MS will go in. The OBD1 is great for N/A applications, but many people have told me that they just can't get it to truely recognize boost, whereas the MS (as you probably know) can read ~21psi with the standard MAP *BUT* I'm interested in the "MAP Daddy" 4bar upgrade, mowahahah.

                          The hybrid build has been going smoothly, but between my contracting company and working the CNC shop in the evenings, time has been a commodity lately.

                          Running engine simulations using the cam and stock head numbers (although they are ported etc), 300hp at the crank is comming up consistantly :). I'm positive the hybrid will make more power than the turbo iron head 3.1, and should be crazy with boost.

                              Sorry for the delayed response. No I haven't had a chance to do a write up yet. The car actually sat parked for almost a year due to lacking either time or money or both. I just got my new wideband O2 installed last weekend and will be hopefully programming it in the coming weeks. If you have any questions about anything feel free to email me, I'll be happy to help with whatever I can. I still plan to do a write up, just need to make time to do it.

                                This is a 1227727 GM ECM from a '92 Lumina in a '93 Camaro (non-e transmission).
