Obtaining a PCM for my 99 A4

If you read the article I linked there, or any of the other posts you will see that some '99 Fbody cars got mislabled PCM's with the 09374997 service number and that the correct number is the 09361735, which happens to be used in just about every other 3.1 3.4 and 3.8 FWD GM vehicle in 1999. Why would GM use a PCM exclusive to the Fbody when they can just use a different program?

Apparantly Wester's is using a catalog lookup that still references the mislabled service #. I would send them the link to the GM Tech article.

Yep, I sent them the link you posted above a couple hours ago and they have already found a computer for me. Actually they had the 9361735 written down for the 99 V6 F-body before, but when I sent them the service number off of my PCM it was 09374997 (obviously a mislabled one) so that led them astray.

The link you sent was what he needed to clear up the confusion.

Great, mystery solved! Glad you were able to get that straightened out with them. Sorry for any confusion on my part, I got kinda distracted with Silvachris thread-jacking. ;)

Have some updated info for this thread. PCM number 9361735 is NOT for a 1999 Camaro. That is for non-ETC applications (Electronic Throttle Control).

Currently GMSPO doesn't have any PCM's available for ETC 3800 V6.

The original or service replacement PCM may not be programmed successfully. There may also be a DTC P0606 and or a P1516 set. The concern is with the PCM replacement part numbers.
- Part number 09374997 is mislabeled on the PCM and is part number 09361735 (which is for a non ETC 3800 V-6 application).
- PCM part number 09374997 is for an ETC application but was changed to part number 12209624.
- PCM part number 12209624 is for a non-ETC application.
- At this time, GMSPO does not have a PCM available for a 3800 V6 ETC application.

So Wester's sent you a 9361735 PCM and your car had the symptoms described in the article?

How did they program the PCM the first time? Did you send them yours and they sent it back?

Is there no resolution to this? That article was from 2003, I would have thought GM would have a fix by now?

I guess the first time they were able to get the PCM for my car (that was about 1.5-2 years ago).

No, they can't flash a 9361735 PCM with the program for my VIN.

I am just going to send them the one out of my car.

He says he can have it back to me in 2 days, I can send it to him in 2 days, just just a week of downtime. No biggie.

Were there ETC and non-ETC version in 1999 for the Fbody? Silvachris seems to have a non-ETC car as he has the 936 PCM?

I would like to get to the bottom of this so I don't give out false info. Thanks!

1999 saw the introduction of the electronic throttle control.

It doesn't say anything about it being an option. Although I guess that doesn't necessarily mean there aren't a couple out there without it, but it seems doubtful.

All 99+ V6s have Electronic Throttle Control. Don't confuse that with Electronic Traction Control, though. ;)

I've found some new information. I got a Service Number 09361735 PCM, and hooked it up. The PCM isn't dead BUT it will not start my car. I scanned it and found 2 codes: 606 and 1518 I think. Both look to be related to the throttle control. I checked the vin on the PCM I bought, and it's from a 2000 Buick Lesabre. Doesn't work man. So I'm wondering if 09361735 is the WRONG number to look for.

Should I just have them get me a PCM from a 2000 Camaro? Service number 9380717, or 12209624? Or will those work in a 99 at all?
