• Tuning for gears, 97.

Howdy.
I just got my HP Tuners for my 97 A4 this week. First thing I need to do is recalibrate my speedo for the 3.42's i put in to replace the stock 3.08 gears.

I read on the HPT forum that V6's and 98LS1's are unique in that you have to back up your vcm files and then make changes and reflash instead of just editting? Is this correct?

Has anyone done this for their v6 that can advise of the steps? I am weary of getting my feet wet here...any help woudl be appreciated

thanks

If you have it what you do first is download your stock tune, and save it good to have a back up. Every time you tune, you need to edit a file and "upload" it to the computer. Its a good idea to have a copy of your stock computer on your computer.

Then you copy the file you downloaded. Then Edit it, after you edit it, upload it back to the computer, and go form there.

honestly, Each time I edit my tune, I save it as a new one. I also keep a Word document saved with it to show all the changes I have done on each tune. I even call them V. 1.0, 1.1., 1.2, 1.3 etc....

For gear change go to...

EDIT>SPEEDOMETER

then go to

TOOLS>UNIT CONVERSION
under unit conversion int eh top right there is a spot to put in your tire size. Enter it in and calculate the tire height.

will be like 25" or around there then got to
TOOLS>CALCULATOR
divide your tire size by your gear ration(new one if you swapped gears in)

then take that number and put it in the new section under the "SPEEDOMETER" window. Then hit "calculate for New Values"

then click save as, and you should be good to go.

no problem...

I do suggest making "versions" of your computer tune, just nice to have if something happens and you need to start from scratch.

Yeah i've heard that. Like an etest version, a track version etc..

Right now i need to get my gears programmed so i can get a good dyno/track number once i get my turbo issues worked out(see FI section).

I'll probably play with fuel trims and the like over the winter, learn it real good and then start applying stuff in the spring.

2.0 has change logs as well as a ****load of other bells & whistles that will make the need for that obsolete. If your running a turbo though raven might i suggest getting your *** a wideband or at least getting onto a dyno with a wideband to make sur eyou dont blow your **** up.
