• Sat Dyno tune............

I have an appointment Sat for a dyno tune. However, I don't have my headers on yet. Am I wasting my money? $150 hr. Also, they told me to get a speedo recalibrator, due to my new 3:42's. I would think a Dyno shop would have the software to change that if they could do the tune. Are they crooked?
This is what they said:You shouldn't need to re-tune after a header install, however Mary says you will need a universal speed calibration kit. Best thing to do at this point for pricing is to call Mary directly at the number below & speak with her about it. I have penciled you in for Saturday & will hold your spot on the dyno .

I would be suprised if you actually found a shop that could/would tune your car. Chances are they expect you to bring the stuff to tune it, and they might give you a few pointers on what needs to be done.

You're probably just paying to rent the dyno for an hour so you can tune it.

They said they could tune it no problem. So that's what I'm going in for.

man, i havent been able to find anywhere around here including the biggest shops in portland that could tune mine. They would just dyno and give me a/f. I am doing the texas speed mail in (maybe we can get another gp deal)with a spare pcm for upcoming mods, then have it redone for the a/f. Then use that til i get a turbo months from now to have it re-tuned.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I e-mailed them, and asked what kind of software they were going to use to tune the car...I shall see If I get a reply....

Jessica, I don't know of a single shop in Palm Beach or Broward county that actually tune 3.8s in Fbody's for a matter of fact I don't know of one that touches the Grand Prix's either. Most of the shops I have talked to assume that we run the same PCM as the LS1 and LT1 people. I would make sure ahead of time they aren't making these assumptions and that they've specifally tuned your year Fbody with a 3.8. One thing I have found from living down here is that shops like to take advantage of the average "kid" assuming they don't know anything about their vehicle as a lot of the kids into the import scene down here can't tell a carbuerator from a crossmember. They sell these kids on services that they don't truly provide. I'm not saying that this specifical shop is trying to screw you over but I am concerned they are trying to, as I've learned in south Florida, trust nothing that sounds the least bit dubious.

Thanks, I think I will get HP tuners with the money, and then find someone familiar with it and pay them to tune it.

I think just asking for help is your best bet...to find someone in your area familiar with tuning your specific car is going to be slim to none...you might find one familiar with hptuners but that doesnt mean they know the v6 tables very well...they are alot different then ls1 based tables. I'd say get the program & all the trimmings...you've come this far in paying thousands for the blower & taking the time to install it or get it installed....take the time to ask questions & get your tuning right...you know my email obviously so if you ever need a hand just hit me up.

Jessica, I'm going to be a spoiler. I don't think you'll get a good result. For one thing, you're fuel is not up to it. Second, you still have a bug in there that needs to be worked out. Plus with the 3.42 gear installed, you will hit your limiters alot sooner. Cutting off the numbers from the dyno.

I think JET chip sells a calibration kit for your car.

But just go for it and see what you get. I'm just telling you ahead of time what the results may turn out. Just don't be disappointed if it's bad.

Keep us posted.

what is it you think isnt going to work? Obviously shes gonna need larger injectors but with hptuners you can modify the file for anything from injectors to her gears to whatever...you also say "Plus with the 3.42 gear installed, you will hit your limiters alot sooner. Cutting off the numbers from the dyno" what exactly do you mean by that? you adjust for the gears in the bin file I think we've convinced her the place that shes going probably doesnt konw what they are doing and to invest in the program herself whether to tune it herself or find someone local that knows what their doing to show her around it. If you buy it it will work ;) lol

again like i said i dont think shes having them tune the car since they sound like they dont know what they're doing...i could be wrong but if she takes 5 mins to get the little stuff tuned in there should be no problems running on a dyno
