  • Code P0440 So whats up with it?

    SES today Code p0440 is on Evaporative control sustem malfunction, so whats up with it...


    did a search this is hte only thing really comes up.

    Car has been sort of sitting for a few days, not driven much and its been pissing down rain all month on it.

    First thought is always fuel cap. After that, you're looking at something wrong with the EVAP system. Could be a number of things.

          and yes... it is my gascap, hasn't shut off yet, but next time i went to drive my car checked the cap and it wasn't even on, just dangling inside the door.

          My mom said she thought twisting it till it clicks was too much.

          Took 285 miles for it to go off though.

            I get that code a lot, but it's never been my gas cap. It just comes and goes by itself. One day the SES light is on and couple days later it goes off. Everytime I check it it's that p0440.

              I have heard that the EVAP cannister beads will float or bounce up and block the outbound gas vapor tube causing the EVAP Purge control Solenoid to pop a code.

                i have this code

                about to buy a locking gas cap from Napa.. not sure if a aftermarket cap will help the problem.
