I believe he is looking for a new headunit AND four 6.5's for under $220. Is this correct?

Your not going to find much for just that little bit. A pair of good speakers usually cost $70 to well over $100. The cheapest good quality h/u's you can find will be around $100.

Re: Looking to spend 220 bucks topps..

i don't quite like your thinking ...you want to buy a crappy headunit for 120 (too low for a good headunit) but change your speakers.... trully it might even sound worst then you have right now in your car....in my opinion you should spend atleast 200 -250 on a headunit and get a nice headunit with good sound processing ... you will hear a big difference even with stock speakers..then whenever you feel that you're gonna change the speakers (or have money in hand) you can change the speakers... just my .02 ......

anyway if you chose to go your own route, i have found some headunit in 120-140 range .....these are OK pioneers headunit....

Re: Looking to spend 220 bucks topps..

I agree go with a very good h/u, and find some good speakers later on. Stay away from pioneer and sony (although pioneer is getting good ratings on there speakers, there crap to me, but their headunits are some of the best) and dont get coaxial speakers that are 3 way or 4 ways, its a sales gimmick and the extra tweeters are useless. Alpine, Infinity, Focal and many other companys make great 2 way coaxials or component speakers. Just read around and search.

A new headunit might blow out those stock speakers real quick.

                    (Unless you have a Monsoon.)

?? As long as he is not playing music at 100% volume all the time, even then, 25 watts isn't going to blow the stock speakers. You will be fine with the stock speakers and aftermarket head unit.

Yeah. I guess it does depend on how loud you play your music. Personally I play mine as loud as I can so in the past I have blown my fair share of stock speakers. Plus you need to crack it up especailly with the t-tops off. Oh well, if they do blow that'll be an excuse to buy new ones. So what, you've spent more money but you'll have one nice little setup.
