  • amp question

Hey all I have a quick question. Ok here’s the run down, I have a Sony X-plod cd head unit 52watt, Alpine type “S” door speakers, Alpine type “R” rear speakers with a Alpine type “R” 10’ sub. What is the best amp out there for the buck? I'm looking for something thats going to sound good.

    Re: amp question

What are you trying to power? All 4 speakers and the sub? Or use your headunit for the speakers and amp for the sub?

Also, you need to know the exact model number of your subwoofer. It's going to be something like SWR-1042D ....

      Re: amp question

SWR 1042D is the model number of the sub. I'm going to unplug the very back speakers the ones in the hatch area anyway. So I plain to amp just my sub and my mids.

When you say "mids", you mean both your Type-S and Type-R 6.5"s speakers correct? If so, here's a few to look at:

          Re: amp question

No, this is what I want to do.... Doors are going to be my highs, the "back seat" speakers will be my mids, and the sub will be for my lows. I plan to unplug the speakers in the very back of the trunk area. So basically I plan on amping my mids "back seat speakers" and my sub and not amping my doors at all because I think they will be fine. But I might run 2 amps because that way I won't lose out on power to my sub. I want as much bass as possible. But I don't want to hook my sub and my mids up to the same amp.

            Re: amp question

I'd say get a 4-channel for the front and rears, and a seperate amp for the subs. You will want to power all of your speakers if you get subs that really pound. This is something I didn't do, and still don't have the amp for my speakers. But thats definitly the next thing I'm getting, since the subs overpower the speakers quite a bit. The 25W from the head unit doesn't move the speakers very much. If anything, get an amp for the fronts, run the rears off the head unit and get a seperate amp for the subs.

              Re: amp question

^^^^ What he said, the bass is gonna over power the your door and sail panel speakers. 52 watts is over-rated peak power, headunits tipically put out around 20 rms watts to each speaker, and that aint much. You should always go by RMS, 50-75 rms watts would be plenty, and get atleast maybe 250+ rms watts for the sub.
