I have a 2000 firebird with the monsoon system, the only option I don't have is the 12 disk changer...

Does anyone know where it is when it comes from the factory?

I'm going to be adding one soon and want to put it in the same location...

I've never seen one, but I think it is in the trunk on the drivers side. At least if your car is prewired for it, the harness is behind the left side panel.

Mine is prewired, too, but the Monsoon HU does not have the AUX button in the front, so I guess I can't hook the changer up... What kind of logic is behind that...??? Or am I missing something here...? :(

Here you can find some more info.

    Later!

From what I understand, the CD player HU from 98 and early 99 f-bodies could not control the changer. If you have the monsoon system with a tape player then I believe you can control it. The cd player HU were not able to control the changer till late 99 - present f-bodies. I think all systems were prewired for the changer though.

Yeah, that's just what I don't freking get!!! What friggin logic it is to prewire the damn thing and even have a specific RPO code for that (W55) but still you are not able to use it??? Stupid GM...

Oh, well, so 98 and early 99 owners w/Monsoon CD HU are pretty much screwed... However, these guys are saying it will work, so who the hell knows... Especially part #12495743 which is supposed to work on any factory cassette audio system with either an Auto-Tone button or that has "Theft Lock" written in the display. Sure...

I'm not going to spend 360 bucks just to see it won't work and te have to ship it back! Or, has somebody tried it???

Sorry, had to vent, I guess... :D

I understand where your coming from completely. I cant say that I am 100% positive about this. This is just what I have heard from other people, mostly on the cz28.com forum. One guy there with a 98 monsoon system bought a changer and hooked it up and it wouldnt work. He then found out the prewired cable wasnt hooked up to the HU. After doing that it still didnt work. I am frustrated with this as well. I have the 98 monsoon system and I want a changer as well. I dont have the funds yet to just buy a changer to see if it will work. I will see if I can find some more info about this for you.

As far as prewiring goes, thats something GM has been doing lately for some reason. I know our cars are also prewired for the power seats whether you have that option or not.

Yeah, I've read about it on cz28.com, too and it just sounds so stupid... But doing the prewiring (changer, power seats etc.) save GM $$$'s in the long run so that they don't have to have different harnesses etc. for cars with or without a certain option.

Oh, well... Maybe I need to spend the 360 bucks and see what happens...

Get on eBay and you can get you a changer for a lot less. Ive seen them go for around 150-200 bucks and they were in almost perfect condition.
