• New Alpine 7998 won't retract properly?

The new 7998 is one hell of a HU! Especially if you hook up the 6 disc mp3 changer (I've got every album I own in that thing minus the songs I don't like!!!). I'm having one problem, the face won't retract after the power is off? I have to manually stow the face before I shut off the car. Any ideas?

Contact Alpine and/or your local Alpine installer. They should either fix or replace the unit!

I did, they said to cut all power to the unit, not gonna help though, already disconnected the battery... I might have to have it replaced :( .

You sure you have your (+) leads hooked up right?? From what you have said, it sounds like you have the battery (+) and the turn on (+) switched. So when you turn the car off, it just shuts the unit right down without giving it the chance to close up. Just double check.

TealV6, sounds like you are on to something. I didn't install it so I don't know how it's wired. Is this connection generic across decks/wiring harnesses? I would have to drive 3 hours to have it checked out so I'd like to fix it myself if possible.

Alpine is good for putting the wire diagram on the top of the units. If it's not, it should be in the booklet. But I was recently in a similar pickle with my Alpine. I have a 7886 3-disc indash changer. I've had 3 of these over the years and just put the new one in. Well, I wired it like I'm use to instead of paying attention to the diagram. Seems Alpine now shuts off the power antenna lead when you change over to CD mode. Cause the CD does not need the antenna. Well, my amps where powered off that... so after about an hour or so of baffled, that little detail was fixed.

Your biggest problem is getting the unit out of the dash. You need a volt meter or even a test light to find out which wires are on and when.

            Good luck!
