• Need 12 V source ...

Okay, dumb question and I am new to screwing around with my electronics. Just a little hesitant because I don't want to short circuit the car. But, I am looking for a good 12 V source in the center console to tap into. How about the lighter? I am looking for something that is going to be powered all of the time and I am going to install a switch for control. What color is the wire (I know GM has like 15 different colors)

    Thanks

yeah, the lighter works, I did it. I used the outside casing that's metal, and wrapred the wire around it.

naptown -- okay, so how do I use the pinouts. Is each wire labelled with a number?

Don't freak out man, he just asked a question, and a good one in my opinion. I was needing a 12v source for my manual fan switch I'm making and I had already looked at the link you gave him and it doesn't tell what voltage it is. So before you go and criticize someone for asking a question make dead sure there's an easily found answer. it may very well be on that link, but I don't know enough about electronics to see it. with that said, Steve, you wouldn't happen to be making a manual fan switch would you? let me know if you are :D

Why yes I am ... here is the link I got

http://www.xious.com/camaro/ you might need to click on Modifications and then Install. Seems simple. I have not installed it yet though. I had to finish the plugs and wires last night and then I have to travel for 3 weeks, so it might be a little while before I get back to it.

Cool! I have to wait about 4-5 weeks to do mine anyway. I was planning on using those exact instructions, but my knowlege of wiring is very limited and he doesn't have a whole lot of pictures. Do you have a digital camera? Or some way of taking pictures and putting them on the net? Because I would be extremely greatful to see how the wiring is done for it. Good luck! :D

We will see what I can do. If I start mine before you, I can probably do it the ole fashion way. Pictures and then scan.

The problem is I am not getting a lot of help from members of this board that know what they are doing! Instead, I get people that tell me useless information. I am glad you answered about the pinouts. The first time I opened that page I asked myself WTF

Yeah, I don't think alot of people here have done the ghetto fan switch, and I'm not about to pay $70 for one. If I happen to start mine first I'll be happy to answer any questions you have...if it works that is I plan on taking lots and lots of pictures and doing and install write up when I get done. I just need the time...

Yes, use the orange wire on the back of the cig lighter. Buy those quick splice connectors and use them; it makes it very easy to tap into the wire.
