• Camaro sub db's

Hey what's up all!

Just wondering what everyone has for subs in the back of the bass producing hatch, and what db's your hitting if you've ever had is checked out.

I have one 15" eclipse aluminum sub. I've had it since I bought my camaro approx. 2-1/2 years ago. I got the sub for just under 400 bucks and has been great. I have a cheap punch 800a2 amp that i've had for over 3/4 years and hasn't friend yet. I'm going to upgrade my stereo again soon and just wondering what everyone has in their f-bodys. I hit exactly 150 db's last year in a competition and took the 1st place trophy for the 1 sub catagory. I also have 2 pairs of mbquartz seperates running of of a kickass extant600 4 channel amp.

i hit 145.2 in outlaw with my setup...gain was about 1/4 up then. Thats when i first got them and was still "breaking them in". Gain is now at about 1/2. Dont want to go too much higher because of the risk of clipping. My installer says that with a radio with a subout and how the amp is setup now i should be able to pull 150. You can see the stuff at my website. Good luck!

I don't know why ppl b's about db levels. Like a few weeks ago, okay, 2 -8's can hit 138 easy.. you know why, cuz 138 sucks. UP here in wisconsin if you don't hit 145.. you aint got nutin.
And my gain is basically set at 5% on my amp, i was told to have that off for the most part. And I don't believe that the deck is going to have much to do with the output of the bass, beside the preout voltage which will make your amp more efficent.

That is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard? Do you have any idea how SPL works? Do you even know what a logarithm is?

Okay yeah I bet in Madison, WI thats where they have all the big competition stereos.

Granted I call my fair share of the time, 138dB is loud, and I'm sure you couldn't tell the difference between 138 and 145.

Could you fill me in as to exactly what a logarithm is? As i said before, im still very new at the whole spl thing. Also...do you think a deck with a subout would help my #'s? My installer sure thinks so. One more question...should i have hit higher #'s with my doors closed? Thanks again....

138 and 145 is a big difference. every 3 db's is twice as loud so i think you or the average person could tell the difference.

No...10 dbs is twice as loud. The log scale works that an increase in 10 is twice as much. So 150 is twice as loud as 140, and 140 is twice as loud as 130 and so on.

Sorry guy. 10db is twice as loud. 3db is a "noticable difference". 138db with 2 8"s is EASILEY doable..... believe it or not, 150db has been broken with that set-up.

Sound Pressure Doubles every 6 dB
Power doubles and sound presure is like 1.414 more with 3 dB increase
Psychoacoustically the perception is usually that 10 dB doubles intensity perceived
1 dB is about the minimum loudness change a normal person can identify.

3dB doubles power and 10dB doubles perceived volume.. Just so we are all on the same page..

138dB with 2 8's is not easily doable, its possible, but not easily doable.

This is the statement I was looking for.

Doubling power increases 3db. Doubling perceived loudness takes 10db.

Here's some reading material if you doubt it.... http://users.chariot.net.au/~gmarts/amppower.htm
