• Got metered today....

2 audiobahn AW1200Q subs (700 watts rms), 1 audiobahn 1300HCT (1200 watts rms @ 1ohm), audiobahn 1 farand capacitor, 1 sealed probox with no divider. My max was 145.2 at the kickpanel. This was with the gain on my amp turned about a little over 1/4 of the way and on my alpine tape headunit with no subout. My subs are only about 2 weeks old and i dont play them loud so im told they still will "break in" some. Even with the car running and the capacitor my voltage meter was still going into the red so i imagine that a better voltage supply might up my decibels a few notches. I was metered on a freq sweep track on a basstronic cd. Also my 145.2 was with the doors open. Im told thats because i was getting interior cancellation with the doors shut. It was fun and im more of a SQ guy than SPL, but i was curious to see what it was going to be.

I think that is great, I mean you accoplished some sort of goal, I just don't understand the point of it, I mean is it to make it the loudest as possible. Because I know after like 90db's tends to start the loss of hearing, and at 145db's I know it causes damage, so whats the point to make it that loud. If you could explain the purpose to me, becuase I do think it is interesting.

The main reason i purchased subs/amps etc. is because i wanted to get the best out of the low end of the music spectrum. Im more of a sound quality person myself. I guess the best way to compare is to ask the question....Why would you modify your car to go fast? Dont you know its dangerous? What im meaning to say is when you put go fast goodies on your car, your not driving it 120mph every day. But, its nice to know its there and when you go to the track, then you can push it. Thats like when i went to the stereo shop today i pushed my system. Its not something i do every day. I hope that kinda explains it. Thanks for the comment!

Good ananolgy, Considering quality is a determinant, then it makes more sense. I know what you mean about knowing the power is there, any having control of lots of power is always a good thing. Good job.

Your box looks pretty cheap, it looks like it would vibrate hella bad any time you turned it up. You might want to try getting something a little more sturdy then a plastic q-logic box. You'll get a lot better sound quality out of it.

Good job on hitting 145 though.

Update....since im still new at the whole SPL thing i found out some new info on my metering expierence. I was metered in "outlaw" as they call it, meaning my doors were open when i achieved my highest #. Im told thats because I was getting alot of interior cancelation and it was causing my #'s to be lower. So i dunno if hitting higher #'s with the doors open is actually good or not. I always thought you would achieve better SPL with them closed. Could be cause my hatch rattles so bad....terribly. Maybe some dynamat througout the car would help some.

I bet your distortion at 145dB was like 95% ;)

Pretty cool though, that's my way of thinking with my setup. I might not be able to go really loud all the time, and god knows I wouldn't want to. I'm a rock guy instead of rap, and it would sound real bad to have my bass all the way up with my rock music. I just like to have the ability to go high, plus, it really evens out the spectrum. Totally changes around my frequency response.

Some day I'll hook up my measurement system and I'll show you guys a couple graphs of my car's frequency response with and w/o the sub.

lol....actually the audible distortion was pretty low according to my ears. Trunk rattle isnt loud inside the car, only outside....its really bad there. I went back to my installer today and he turned the gain up on my amp to about 1/2. There is a noticeable difference in sound definatly. Plus my remote bass boost knob, which is installed in my dash, has a blue LED that turns red when it detects clipping. Hasnt turned red yet, so I know i can push it harder than even what was done today. New plan now is to save and get a better headunit with a subout.

Not cheap pimp, I know cause I have one. Not like yours though, that carpet set-up is off the fuggin' chain cousin. I think the pic does not do him justice, or the box. It fits alot (at least mine does) deeper than it seems and because it is made for that specific hatch space, its kinda snug. My Audiobahn's need that airspace to be at full use, so my box is the perfect stage for what they really need to bang! I'll get some pics in a minute, maybe that will show you what I mean...
