  • Any brands to stay away from?

I was thinking about getting a new head unit in preperation for my new system and was wondering if there is a brand I should stay away from. I like the looks of one of the JVC units. I did a search on this but didn't really find a definitive answer. I want something that's reliable and relatively powerful and also something that'll play MP3's and has preamp outputs, ya know, the usual. Thanks.

if you want mp3 capabilities, i'd say go with a kenwood. i'm not to positive on the jvc, but i don't think they show as text as the kenwood does. my friend has a kenwood and he has a TON of characters up on the screen at once.

whats wrong with the Sony Xplode mp3 player? i demo'd it @ a few stores, and it sounded to have better bass responce than a lot of the other brands out there, and the design of the hu wasn't too bad.

my friend had the sony before the kenwood and there's a world of difference. the sony was horrible. it was distorting the speakers and everything. took way to long for the mp3's to load up. it just wasn't a good product.

My old Sony skipped like a school girl in a playground, espeically with the bass playing and all the potholes in my home town. The Kenwood I have now has only skipped once since I bought it... and that was when I got airborne w/ the car at an intersection (don't ask)

If your talking about the JVC head unit that adjusts into 3 different positions and plays MP3s that would be a good choice. It will display your full ID3 tag scrolling across the screen with probably everything your looking for!

              Check that one!

thats not enough room for me. i play all burned cd's, just so i can see text on the cd player. i need an mp3 one for my 5 gig collection. i think my kenwood can scroll around 15 characters plus VISIBLE. it looked like that does 10 or 9 visible. its all about preference. just STAY AWAY from sony.

sony is crap unless you go for a $300+ unit. anything under that is useless. personally i like mine, but it's not one of their cheap ones.
