• Im getting $150 certificate to Circuit City...what should I buy?

What would be the best buy for me...keeping in mind that I would be open to spending a little more than just the $150.

Im thinking maybe getting a small amp, one 10 inch sub, and trying to run my speakers off the same amp. I have the stock H/U and WILL NOT consider upgrading...I have in my possesion a 40x4 HU, but I can't stand how a DIN looks in our cars.

OR

Buy new speakers all around, not getting an amp. And if so, what size speakers (6.5 or 6.75) and 2 or 3 way and what brand?

Will my stock speakers sound good with the first setup? Better than or equal to new speakers, not including the sub?

Thanks in advance

Ciruit City... ouch. Well, I don't know if you'll be able to buy a decent 10", amp and all wiring/install for $150.. and be happy with it. I would say just buy new speakers inside (yes, 6 3/4" ) and worry about sub/amp later, but I'm not sure if you'll notice much of a difference still running off the head unit. Tough call. Maybe they'll let you buy one small thing and take the rest in cash! :D If not, I'd go with new speakers inside and install them myself. Not sure what brands they sell nowadays. I know MTX... do they sell Kicker?

If I had a 150$ gift card to Circuit City I would sell it to someone for 150$ and just get the money because you cant find great oversized 6 1/2
just save up till you get about 370$ and get new Pioneer TS-D170R like me or just get a component set

heh heh heh... looks like you just needed some convincing! Hope you happy with it. I just think the $150 isin't enough to put a sub/amp combo in a car. Think about it. Maybe they have a decent amp that puts out 100 watts for like $75. Then your 10" is like $60. Now you need a box for it. Hopefully you doing it yourself. That will save some $$$. Next you need RCA's to run to the amp. That about $20. And you need power wire AND A FUSE. ;) So.... that's why I said you might be happier just getting new speakers for inside and waiting till you get more money to do the sub/amp thing. --- Just trying to help...

hey adam, me and you can build a couple of boxes...cause i'll prolly want to do the same. as far as mtx subs go, chris had some and not only did he blow them when he was giving them their rms power, but they also sounded like crap. mtx amps are good, but the speakers are way overpriced and aren't worth crap. for $150, they are right, you won't get much good stereo wise--you kind of get what you pay for, and paying $150 for new stereo equipment, especialy amp/sub, is going to be pure crap more than likely--not too mention how BAD cirucuit city overprices things to begin with. if i were you, which i am kind of in the same situation, i'm going to buy an amp from a company called pyramid that no one has heard of, but they make really good amps--for about $70 for a 1000 watt amp. then, just buy one sub at circuit city for a decent price. install kit, a good one, will run you a good $50 too. it's nice to know that chris is going to give me his though, so that's one part i can leave out. :D

btw, here's a topic i posted recently that might help you out. i wouldn't buy components adam, cause one pair of those will cost you at least $250. they are good though.

hey adam, here ya go, tell the guy you'll buy the other sub for $35 too, so he can sell both. polks are pretty good subs.

here's a little somethin about the subs:

hey evan....here's the deal...chris is gonna see if it would work, and if it does he will do this. He's gonna see if there is a way to run my 4 6.5 speakers and a 10" sub off of one MTX 4-channel amp.

If it is possible he is gonna give me his old one and I am gonna buy one sub from circuit city and give chris the rest of the gift card plus a little cash.

Oh and chris said that he LIKED the MTX subs...

oh he did? oh heh, nm. lol, maybe he blew them purposely to get his money back lol. don't remember though...i thought he hated them. ya, the 4-channel thing would work, but you cannot use the delco speakers, they are awful, you are going to have to upgrade all the speakers and then run the sub on two channels bridged. and then the other 2 channels you can run to the front speakers and i think that will be good enough.

he's still got that amp? i thought he took it back to circuit city.
