  • Louder horns for security

Is there anyway to make the horn louder so if the alarm goes off it's louder than what is is now? How would I go about doing it? Thanks.

I dont think you can actually make them louder, but you can install more of them around the car.

First, did you cut that little wire on the back of the siren? I'm sure you probably already did that though......

Second, I added a second siren on my car. Just spliced it into the first siren wire. It doesn't sound really any louder....... but better yet..... now when the alarm goes off each siren makes it's own noise. Like one will be doing one certain noise and the other will be doing another at the same time. Sounds REALLY weird. But that's the idea. Draws A LOT of attention. Everybody who hears it makes a comment to me...... whether it be good or bad is another story! :D

One thing that may help is how you have the siren angled. i had mine shooting upward at first and the hood ate up the sound, almost like a silencer, then we changed it but it still bounced around in the hood. Finally we shot it straight down and it worked like a champ, loud as hell IMO

I think we may have misunderstood. Are you talking about the horn that honks or are you talking about a siren for an alarm system?

I'm sorry, I should have made it clear. I have the factory alarm that uses the horn. I had several aftermarket sirens on my 3rd gen with a aftermarket alarm, and saved them all. Could I use them on my factory alarm at all? I doubt it though.

There was actually a discussion about this earlier over at ls1.com, you can check it out there too. It can't really be done. The factory alarm puts out a pulsed negative output to trigger the horn. The siren will need a constant (+) or (-) output in order to make them come on.

I'm not really sure how you could go about making the factory alarm louder, but I'm sure you could put in an aftermarket horn that would be louder, maybe get some sort of semi horn or see what you can do to wire in a boat horn. For the effort/money involved, an aftermarket alarm would be the more effective way to go.

What's up Doc??? Thanks for the old clarification prescription you know??? I thought dirty was speaking about aftermarket horns for sure, but I think he's right IMO about bouncin' with the factory horn and getting a true siren pimp...IMO
