• Replacing stock speakers

My wife gave me a Pioneer DEH-P47DH CD player for my birthday for my '94 Camaro-I am very pleased with it,but it is time to replace the OEM speakers.Crutchfield says the fronts are 5.25 in.
and the rears are 6.5 in.I want to replace the speakers for about $200....what would be the best
replacements in this price range?

Gregg - The front speaker size is actually 6.75in, the same as in the rear. The technical term for this is the 6.5S speaker(which is just an oversized 6.5), bu any 6.5 can easily be fitted into there. For $200, you're going to have to go with coaxial speakers, components are too expensive.

Speaker preference can vary drastically from person to person. My personal tastes turn towards clarity and Sound Quality. I like Infinity and Polk Audio speakers. They offer low price with surprising performance considering they are coaxial 2-ways.

However, I say just go to a car audio store and listen to what they have on display. Don't go to Best Buy or Circuit City, go to a REAL car audio store.

If you want to know some really good ones, that have great prices in the DFW area, I know of several, just give me an e-mail and I'll steer you to a good dealer.

whoa now, let's not avoid a component setup. for $100, I bought a nice Cerwin Vega set for my old Grand Prix (sounded pissah). Looking on Crutchfield's website (my bible), I see a 6 1/2" Polk setup for $129.95. Don't worry about the 6.5 vs. 6.75 difference. The sound variance is too minimal to worry about and C'field carries adapters/brackets along w/ the wiring harnesses (free w/ purchase) to make it that much easier to actually install. C'field also has a "Specials" section, which could potentially have the same product for less $$. The reason for this is either due to a customer's return, or it's a scratch and dent item, or whatever. I've bought numerous items from the "Specials" pages, and have never been disappointed. Keep in mind, that buying speakers is a #'s game. Keep the freq. resp. between 40Hz-30kHz, the sensitivity as high as possible (nothing below 90), and obviously beware the mounting depth. C'field will tell you right off the bat if something will fit or not. Not so at any stores I've ever been to.
