  • Should this sound good?

Here is my proposed system. Is there any flaws in this setup, or should it sound pretty good? I don't want to get everything and realize I should have bought something different.

    Kicker Impulse IX405D (40W RMS x 4 + Class D 200W RMS to Sub)
(Should Sub frequency crossover in amp set to 70hz or 110hz?)
    JL Audio 10w3-2 stealthbox
Focal Polykevlar 6.5 Components in the front
Kicker Midbass 6.5 in the rear (no crossover for rear, just using the front image enhancer on Pioneer CD Deck to cut rear frequencies)
I already own the Pioneer GM-sized CD Deck.

Everything except for the kicker amp sound like it should sound really good. Kicker amps aren't know for their ability pushing speakers. They are great for subs, though. If you want a good 5-channel amp I'd look into PPI or Xtant(I think they have a 5-channel amp).

As for the crossover, try both and put it at whatever sounds good to you. I have mine crossed at 85hz.

I like my Kicker amps... Impulse amps aren't known for great sound quality though. THD is a little higher than some amps, but they're affordable. Tune it lower. The sub will sound cleaner, and you might avoid high bass rattles.

I miss my ZR240 amp. I'd love owning a ZR1000! You won't need tons of watts for a single sealed 10... but lots of guys claim this and that about JL's handling big watts.

It should be set around 80-85Hz range, but whatever sounds best to you.

It sounds like you can only choose on or the other. So just see what you think sounds best. But more than likely, you are going to want the change it with different music styles.

I like to set my crossover a little lower when listening to rock and a little higher for hip/hop and techno.

I only listen to rock and metal, never hip-hop or rap, so I guess I'll be good on the lower 70hz setting.

I noticed that a lot of people crossover at 80 - Is there gonna be a big difference between 70 and 80?

Also, what characteristics does it give you when you crossover lower vs higher. I know it only plays the lower notes, but do you get more "boom" or tighter bass when it is lower?
