  • Kicker... "Livin' Loud"

When you guys are thinking about car audio and wanting to compile a great system, do your homework, ask around and you will find that Kicker is the best! If it isn't, why does it hold the world record as we speak? Last fall, Alma Gates, aka "Gates Team" and her Ford Bronco packing 48 ZR1000s and 48 10" Solo Barics burped an exploding 171.8 db causing the back window to blow out. Now that's what I call POWER! If you mean SPL when you say best, then yeah Kicker has some really good stuff. Kicker is just about king of "loud."

But for some of us SQ is the most important thing when designing a system for our cars. Who cares if you can produce 171.8db, anything above about 160db is past the pain threshold.

Eclipse is best in my opinion, and others on this board like Alpine, Kenwood, Soundstream, PPI, and others. Just because it's louder doesn't make it "better."

There is a lot more involved in those competition vehicles than buying a bunch of subs, tossing them in boxes and lettin' 'em rip!! I am not suggesting that Kicker isn't good stuff, but a generalized statement referencing on extremely high dollar install doesn't really mean its the best. And as the Reverend stated, just because they can go loud doesn't necessarily mean they can make an great sounding system.

But her vehicles are quite impressive :D

Point taken! I guess I should have mentioned the awesome clarity the Kicker components produce. I haven't heard anything like it besides MBQuart. Yes, Kicker is the king of "Loud" and it's also the king of "Clarity". Just thought I'd share my opinion... My store address is www.trafficjamzcaraudio.com, look me up... ;)

Their componets are king? I disagree, you pay so much for those dual mags or any others, and they are not automatically great sounding. And as fara s Alma Gates goes, a guy from here in Lubbock, Michael Jones, has gone way above 171dB, with less than half her equipment. He uses DD subs, and crossfire amps if I rememeber right. There are other classes than the ONE that Alma Gates competes in. Kicker is great, but there is always better.

Once again, the Rev speaks it true. It only took me about 20 years of loud systems to figure out that sq is better. My home system is amazingly clear and high quality, and my car stereo is getting there, it still has a long way to go though. I don't want people to feel me coming from 4 blocks away, I will only accept clarity now. Being 38, I am trying to save what little is left of my hearing. I don't want a system that will cause blood to drip from my ears.

Of course that is just my opinion.

Who doesn't love clarity? I myself am concerned about hearing. There are other brands out there, and each person holds his own ideas on which is the best. I've heard entire systems with Boston Acoustics, MB Quarts, Infinity, Kicker, Eclipse, Alpine, and all the best. I've heard systems with mixed name brands, and I personally think that most of these brands have their ups and downs. Some have tweeters that produce crisp highs, some tinny highs, some rich mids and midbass, some less than others. They're all the best, it's up to the listener to deside which they like best. I like Kicker, they make some of the best. I'll always have a soft spot for ZR amps...

They don't. I'm not sure who hold's the world record right this second but Michael Hughes has burped a 174.6 in 2001 and I believe is above 175 this year. He uses DD.

Really, SPL setups get old in everyday driver cars quick. SQ all the way. I perticually like image dynamic's stuff. Everyone has opinions. What sounds good to you and how much do you wanna spend?

i like my 146 with 2 10" subs thats very clear...i think anyhting that high i useless for everyday listening just good for comps. i also prefer DD subs as ive learned the hard way what wattage does to subs that cant handle it
                            hehe
