My vote is for the 2 12s. You have more wiring options that way without strange impedence loads. Three 10s may have more cone area, but the 12s will handle more power. Plus, you'll have to drop some extra cash to buy the third 10" sub. Whateve you decide, if you need a box, I can do either.

megabass,

thanx for the offer on the box, but i'm already getting any subs i want the 3 tens or 12's with the box, amp, wiring and instalation for free.

Anyways not worrying about wireing or anything, which would sound better the two 12's i assume??

Call me crazy, but I don't subscribe to the bigger is better theory. I say go with the 3 10"'s. I've always like 10" subs better than 12" subs, just personal preference I guess. Maybe it has something to do with the time my brother told me that "10's hit harder than any other comparable sub." He was and still is TOTALLY AND COMPLETLY WRONG IMHO, but I was young and impressionable.

I like 10's as well or better than 12's....They are generally a bit cleaner. I love 8's! Get 3 or 6 JL8W3's, and a JL 500/s, and a good box....I gaurantee you it will outhit your friend's car with 3 10's. It's all about the box.

I've had the JL Audio 3-8W6 set up (til someone wanted it more than me) and it was being powered by a PPI Art series A600.2. Thus giving the MAX 200 watts to each 8". Built in a custom ported enclosure, I could make Rockford 12's , and most others.

Depending on what your goal is, I've seen the stealth JL box (outfitted with the D2, not the W6) with the JL500 powering it can hammer VERY hard. This will also keep your hatch open for T-tops or storage of other gear when you go to the track :D

10" subs have nearly the same cone area as 12's, and with three, you'll increase that area more than with 2 12's (simple math)

The smaller cones provide less moving mass for the amplifier to contend with, making them slightly more accurate. The decreased mass also makes them slightly more sensitive. Less power for same output level.

10" and 12" subs generally have very similar VC diameters. They can handle the same amount of power. Don't be scared by "strange impedance loads." Any quality amp will drive a 2 ohm load bridged, and you can make several combinations yeilding an appropriate impedance load.

I see no reason to use 2 12's since cost is not a concern. And OneQuickV6, you speak the truth brother, it's all about the box. Feed these subs good power and you'll be happy.

P.S. The hardest hitting, cleanest system I've ever heard was a Fishman install with six 8" JL subs. It's box, power, cone area, sensitivity for SPL and low moving mass, power and high-voltage sources for accuracy.

I don't really know to much about car stereo but and professional advice I have sought they have always told me to go for 12's over 10's every time. So i'll take their advice and say go for the 2 12's

Ayone else???, my box is supposed to be arriving today, and the guys at the shop are gonna cut it for the 12's or tens if i decide. I'm also gonna take their imput on all this, or maybe i'll even put 3 12's in there :D

Most likely, they won't be able to fit 3 12s in there. The reason I would go with 2 12s over 3 10s is not purely based on cone size, but air space. Take a given box space. Us my boxes for example. My standard box is 2.0 cubic feet. Therefore, I can give a pair of 12s 1.0 cubes each. Now, take that and divide that by three and you get .667 cubic feet available for each 10" sub. Most 10s play very tight at .6 cubes and the majority of 12s out there sound great at 1.0 cubes. So depending on your box size, keep that very simple volume factor in mind. If your box is smaller than that, good luck. But my preference would be two 12s with more volume vs. three 10s with less volume. IMO

Two 12's. Forget this "accurate" stuff. A sub put in a properly sized box plays "accurately." Two 12's will play deeper than three 10's. It will sound better and get more watts out of your amp (assuming the amp is rated at 4 ohms mono, and the subs are wired in series parallel). Three subs will get less power out of your amp, unless you get an amp that can see 2.67 ohms. Sure, three 10's may sound good, but two 12's with more watts sounds better... hell, I've seen a single Punch Power 15 ported with an 800a2 kill three 10's.

Two 15's in an Fbody would kill! Only problem is space. I've never seen more than a single 15 in an Fbody. Plus, good 15's demand a lot of watts... and I couldn't afford two big amps!

quality, not quantity
I have heard on 10" high quality sub blow away 3 12"'s, so do some hard research for a good 10 or 12 and you will be happy.
I would recommend the new JL Audio 12w7 or 13w7, only big problem with those is that they are power hungry and need some insane amount of watts like 1000rms or something
I will back JL for a while, even tho I have not yet heard a w7, i highly doubt JL would even consider putting anything out that is crappy.
