• Q about Alarm

I have a V6 with a factory alarm. When I bought it last week, I Wasn't given a keychain disarm'er - does this style of alarm use a key chain disarm'er?

I hate having only 10 seconds to put the key in the ingition before the alarm goes off.

First thing I never heard of a factory alarm that goes off after 10 seconds of you don't put the key in the ignition. It's probally aftermarket. Run a vin check and see if your car came with an alarm
Second I was checking your profile and noticed you have a v6LT1? which is it. a LT1 is a v8.

There is no factory alarm that goes off if you dont put the key in the ignition, not in Camaro's anyways. If it does that it's not factory, it's aftermarket.

V6 - I wasn't thinking

Carfax doesn't say anything about an alarm - if I took it in to an electronics/alarm/car audio place - think they'd have an idea or be able to find out?

Ya, I would take it to a local shop that installs alarms and they could disconect it for you or maby even get a remote for you if you still want it. First I would call a local GM dealership and ask someone in parts to run the vin on their computer to see if it has the option. It dosen't take very long.

I think you guys are wrong - this is a variation of a GM factory alarm. My Firebird came with 1SC package whic includes "security package(includes theft deterrent system and remote keyless alarm)). I have no aftermarket alarm.

If I unlock the car with the key (instead of using the fob), the car will start beeping after 10 seconds.

I rarely use the key to unlock the car (why risk scratching it?) anyway.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

Jeez, read your manuals.

The 10 sec thing is a setting, you can change a bunch of alarm settings.

There is indeed a factory alarm. The horn honks, lights flash, everything goes crazy in most of our cars IF you unlock the car with the key, open the door, get in and don't put the key in right away.

Yes, they are right it can be turned off. The instructions were posted on ls1.com (if I remember right) just a few days ago in their electronics area. Do a search for it.
