  • Amp Mounting ?

Well I am trying to figure out where I want to mount my amps. And I need your opinions! My first thought was to have a custom aluminum rack that would fit right behind the rear storage flap. But I recently saw a picture where a guy had mounted them to the back of his trunk. And I can't find the site now, so I need some help, I think the guy goes by the name bandmaster or band director. He has a very nice setup. Please help me, spring is just around the corner! Thanks Michael

Just a thought, I am going to mount my amp where the Monsoon amp is in the spare tire well. It is hidden and should work fine.

        check out mine...

if u dont like that try and mount it underneath the passenger side seat. either that or you can remove the cushions to the back seats, put one under there and then put the cushion back.

I thought the amps have to have air circulation??

Depends on the amp. Some run hotter than others.

I wouldn't put one under the rear seat cushion though, it does need some air. Under the front seat works but can be a pain, people in the rear will kick it if they put their feet under the passenger seat.

Thanks for your ideas, I should have been more specific. I have t-tops, so I need to keep my storage space. I also plan on mounting two amps, one JL Audio 300/4 and one JL Audio 500/1. So I am not sure if they both would fit by the spare tire. And I do not want them visible, when you look in the windows(theft deterant). Thanks Michael

                http://home.att.net/~khandlon/ampbox.html

I did this with my sub amp. I have since drilled more venting holes and recarpeted with matching carpet. But the design is some what unique.

So for your appication maybe one where the monsoon amp mounts and a box like mine minght work. I'm not sure how big those amps are though.

You could build an amp rack on top of where the gas tank is. Just be sure not to drill into it! haha. But for th stealth part, just make it how you want. It can be comopletely hiden in a rack, as long as you have nice sized vents on both sides of the enclosure and maybe a fan one ach side...one to push the air into the enclosure, one to push the air out on the other side. That used to be a prettyt popular design, since people were into raised lettering and stuff. Like on top of the elcosure your amps are in, you could have the JL symbol raised out of the vinyl or tweed, or whatever you cover it with. I have looked for examples, but didn't find any.

These are examples of amps on the back wall of the trunk. Theres also a lot of things you can do on the deck behind the rear seat.

someone already put me up here... Thanks :D but if you want to see it again, the link to my pics is in the sig. My amps are in the back wall. It's a helluva long way for the power, I think my primary cable ended up being like 21 feet, but they're comfortable there with the power they're getting so that's good. Most people put them on the top of the gas tank. No harm in that, just remember it IS a gas tank below that when your screwing it down.

I've actually done one like that before. The fit is a tad different with a firebird compared to a camaro. It's a real easy do-it-yourself project. I think there was even a drawing on the one link I left, but I have a drawing as well.

I have a 96 Camaro, so if you have drawings for that, I would be very happy. If you want to email me if you have any additional info, that would be great. It looks like you do great work. Thanks Michael
