• Drilling through firewall, easier way???

I have a 98 firebird and I can install my own aftermarket cd player. My friend has the same car and we had to drill through his firewall to get a connection to his battery. Is their an easier way to do this? Thanks

Umm, to power the Head Unit? There are already wires/connecters behind the stock stereo. If you ment CD Changer.. There is a rubber grommet thing on the pass side wall. You can put wires through that.

You do not need to run any new wires to install a new HU. You just need to buy a wiring harness from somewhere like Best Buy. This will convert the stock wires into a compatable form to connect to the new HU harness. You might also need an antenna adapter, and you'll most likely need a new trim piece to convert the HU space to a regular 1 DIN size space, unless you bought a 1.5 DIN HU which is the same size as the stock one.

Don't know why you need to run anything through firewall for a head unit, but in case you are asking about this for amp wiring, there is a grommet on the passenger's side....Pull back some carpet and look up a little, it is right there. Only big one you see.

Maybe we're not reading everything correctly here but there is not anything that you should run through the firewall EXCEPT an amp power supply. All the other power connections are at the deck. Even power for a changer can be gotten from there. If you're going through the firewall with anything, don't drill it, just use a preexisting grommett. It'll make your life much easier.

If you can't find the grommet, or if your dash is too packed to get a wire through like mine is, just drill a hole under the steering column. But why would you need a hole through the firewall to install a new head unit? Just use the factory harness with a wire harness to swap with.

Well just incase you are installing an amp and need to connect to the battery, i think the best place to run a wire is behind the PCM on the passenger side as someone mentioned earlier. Also, as others stated above. Definately no reason to run a power wire for a new HU.
