Alright, I have an opportunity to buy the rear end out of a 96 camaro, it has a posi, how can I tell what series it is, I want to put a set of 4.10's or 3.73's in it.

Usually you can tell by what gear is in the rear end. If it's 3.08 or numerically lower, it is 2 series. However some companies have been making "thick" ring gears to bolt a 3.23 or numerically higher gear to a 2 series carrier. You can identify them by the numbers cast into the carrier, but I can't seem to find the reference for that.
