  • Axleshafts Questions

ok i have a 1993 3.4l v6 camaro with a automatic trans. i bought some 1997 trans am 16 inch rims and they dont fit on the rear axleshaft because of this Chrome wheel interference problems on 93-96 F-bodies : Chrome wheels will not fit on rear of 93-96 Camaro & Firebirds due to a lack of clearance between the wheel hub and the rear axle shaft. Factory 93-96 axle shafts have a 70.75 mm diameter hub face, while the 97-02 Chrome wheels have a 70.5 mm diameter hub opening. Minor grinding/machining is mandatory for installing those wheels on 93-96 models.

What would i need to do to make the wheels fit?
Would i need to grind down the axle shaft or the wheel?

You need to grind the hub down, that is what I had to do. After my rims got stuck on and had to kick them off from the back side.LOL I used a dremeland just went around the center hub grinding it then , test fit it until it goes on smooth and comes of smooth. Just alittle time consuming grinding it , but it works.

grind the wheel itself not the axle...

It is easier to grind on the hub than the rim esp. if his is chrome, I would want to mess with nicking up the chrome. Thats why I never touch my chrome rims with a dremel.

Good to hear, look good. Just make sure you can take them off easy, mine went on good the first time and then they got stuck , I had to kick them off and grind somemore.LOL
