  • Rear end swap problem

I just got the car back from the shop and found out that the rear end has 2.73 and not 3.42 gears. I gotta call the guy in the morning to try to fix this but looking at gear sets there are so many variables. I looked underneath and the cover has 10 bolts. My question is-is there any way of telling the size of the other components (7.500, 8.500, 8.250 ring size) and carrier series (2,3) without taking apart the rear? The rear came out of a 1994 Z28 LT1. I'm calling the guy early in the morning so I want to have as much info as I can. Thanks for any help.

96 and later 6 speed cars have 3.42's, 95 and earlier could have anything.

if the rear end is stock it would be a 7.625" 3-series

same thing happened to me. It had been over 6 months sense I bought it in cash so there wasn't alot I could do about it and I just left them in for good gas mileage. Best of luck.
