    ok i have a 95 firebird with the 4l60e, the tranny is locked in first gear or so have i bin told by the trans shop.

    this is what it is doing.

    P = no free revs:(
    R = nothing just sits there :rant:
    N = first
    D = drive seems to work fine
    3 = works fine
    2 = works fine
    1 = works fine

    neutral and first are the same now what the shop told me is that the first gear clutches are welded(welded themselves up), i haven't ever really pushed the car all the hard it just did this one day with no warning. if first is locked up is there a way to unlock it so i get neutral back and park? any help would be great or any other ideas, i am planing on doing a manual swap but need more time to get everything together to do it and i hate having to park out in the boon docks win i go some where just so i can pull strait out.:rant:

      not for what they want, to much money i will do a manual swap first for less than doing the rebuild.

        Dealership? 3000+

        Even a reputable trans place will be 1800+

        My thoughts on a manual, yeah they're fun but why row the boat when you can get a motor for it.

            Was the trans fluid burnt before this happened?

              no the trans fluid is clean and looks good and no burnt smell. the car drove fine and had revers, i got up one morning and no revers and neutral is first.

                Sounds like something hung the piston up in the low gear drum.

                    Not with out removing the trans and disassembling it.

                      ok that sucks, could it be something in the valve body?

                            Disassemble it. It's more likely a ring leaking and engaging the clutch pack.

                              ok, that sucks. well i guess if any one wants a 4l60e and ECM. i will let them figure it out i just didn't want to put much time into the tranny since i am planing on doing the manual conversion.

                                At the end of Part Three, we changed the valvetrain of the 3.8-liter V6 in the Tom Henry RS. We installed new, Yella Terra "Ultralite" 1.8:1, aluminum roller rocker arms, Katech valve springs and Katech titanium retainers on our 3800 Series II V6.
