  • wow.. took a whole bottle...

of diff lube, im surprised, i was really low.. it did fix a lot of the sounds i was hearing though.. including the weird one i was hearing in certain gears

the only downfall is i need to replace the seal on the flange that attaches to the driveshaft.

anyone have a part number for me, or recommend something?

also, how hard is it to replace this? hopefully i can put a 1pc DS in there also

The pinion seal is not hard to change. Basicually you drop the drive shaft and swap out the seal.

yeah i got to do that too, but i think i'll just change it. The diff. cover is covered in rust though, should i knock off all the rust before i take the bolts out?

not at all , you're gonna have to take your beam style inch/lb torque wrench and check the preload on the pinion nut. Then take a beefy impact wrench (definately recommended) and take the pinion nut off. then slide the pinion yoke off and take a screwdriver to pry out the seal. Lube up the new seal and tap it on, slide the yoke back on, and tighten up the pinion nut (new preferably) to the torque reading you found in the beginning.

edit: also, i thought about getting a chrome cover before but you wouldn't really be able to see much of it at all.
