  • 3.73 top end question.

I plan on putting 3.73's in at some point. I was curious to know this, though. Seeing as my car is an automatic (93 3.4 Camaro), if I put it in drive and take off down the highway or some other open stretch of road, by about 110, I'm doing 5k rpms. Obviously I still have overdrive, but if I were to put in 3.73s, where would my top end be affected?

you would have to shift into overdrive sooner.
but how soon i dont know.
But you would get there faster:banana:

        no, but it's fun. :P

I was just curious as to what the top end would be limited to after 3.73s.

lol the top speed isn't the fun part.. it's getting there as fast as possible which is the fun part.. which is why it shouldn't matter what the top speed is :D

very true. Matter of fact, I couldn't agree more. XD Perhaps it's due to my current lack of RWHP that makes the speed part addicting.

with a 5700 RPM limiter, you'd be limited to 167 MPH.

you'd be limited to 165 MPH

I mean, never mind that your car, and all V6 f-bodies, are electronically limited to 118 MPH, nor that you could probably couldn't find a stretch of road long enough to go that fast...

Ya it'd deffinetly take a stetch of road. I've had a chance to get to about 155mph calculating off of my rpms (speedo hits peg at 125)

lets just say that i have a 01 3.8 manual. heavy mods, and if i'm going about 70 i'm screeming down the road ;) .

anyone who has an auto and puts 3.73s in, should have a fat wallet cause gas will eat you up.

I'm planning on getting 4.10's with my new setup but compared to the 33 mpg with the 3.08's im scared of the gas milage im gonna get.

I have 3.42's and I can get around that too (30+)

Really, it's just how you drive. I can get anywhere between 16 mpg and 32 mpg.. it just depends how I drive.

At the end of Part Three, we changed the valvetrain of the 3.8-liter V6 in the Tom Henry RS. We installed new, Yella Terra "Ultralite" 1.8:1, aluminum roller rocker arms, Katech valve springs and Katech titanium retainers on our 3800 Series II V6.
Ultralites are nearly 25% lighter than the stock 1.6 rockers and 8% lighter than the SLP aluminum...
