i bought an aluminum driveshaft off ebay from a 2000 ls1 , my friend is putting some headers on for me so he's throwin the driveshaft on too. I have a 93 3.4 he says the bolts holding the old driveshaft in are seized up real badly and that it looks like the driveshaft i bought is 2 inches too short. is it supposed to be shorter? any advice? he's soaking the bolts in penetrating oil. I know it should only be a 15 minute job but it looks like there are some problems, anyone with knowledge on this plz help

    thanx

keep in mind the drive shaft slides a considerable way into the transmission

seized? they are 4 really small bolts 9/16ths i think. And they arent even torqued hard. This might be a dumb question, but did you pull the e-brake so the shaft wont turn when you try and turn the bolts?

They didn't want to come off on mine either. I sprayed some wd-40 and next day they came right off.

Which part is shorter? The yoke (part going into trans) or the driveshaft body?

Also, do you have a measurement from u-joint to u-joint (center cap to center cap)

I think the one piece shafts are shorter than the two piece. Just think about it for a minute. It is shorter to go straight from the transmission to the pinion that in is to go transmission to carrier bearing to pinion.

sry ppl, this is all heresay, my mechanic has the ds not me, so i'd have to ask him to measure it and what not, since the shaft does slide into the transmission i should think there wouldnot be a problem even if it was shorter. i will have to give him a call and see if he has figured anything out yet, he's not the brighest man in the world. i will post again when i get some info from him

I swapped a driveshaft when i was 16, the first maintainence I had ever done besides oil changes was swapping my driveshaft...

However, I did notice when I went to swap my 96 two piece driveshaft w/ an LS1 alumi. that the bolts that attached the middle support for the 2pc to the underbody were very tough to get off
