Auto Trans O/D seems like it goes in & out

I just recently bought a 96 camaro, 3.8L. with an automatic trans. It seems like when Im cruising, especially on the freeway, its shifting back and forth into overdrive, even though my speed stays the same. Is this normal, Or is it a engine or trans problem?

prolly a trans problem. I'd get it checked out sooner than later. My tranny just dumped eariler today.

It seems like its only an overdrive problem. I was wondering if it could be a sensor or switch or something. I dont really know to much about trannys.

if my memory serves me right its called the torque converter lock out switch. that could be your problem

torque convertor clutch, tcc. have your fluid checked. I had a 92/93 bonnie where teh speed would stay the same, but the rpm's would go up & down. turned out that some coolant had leaked from the plastic radiator into teh tranny fluid & the tcc had some rust on it & the clutch discs were deteriorating.

Flush and fill your tranny and also change the filter. If that doesn't do the trick, then your torq. converter is possibly going out and you need to think aboui changing it.

p1870, its your tcc valve is worn and needs to be fixed, sonnax makes a kit, i just had a dealer work on it and havent had a problem yet

I changed the fluid and filter. there is a lot of air bubbles in the fluid now. and its still doing the same thing, even worse. it seems its shifting into O/D to soon, and boggs down. when i floor it, it seems to go through the gears ok until i let off. Ive heard something about a 2nd 4th gear bands go out on these trannys a lot.

Turns out, It was an engine problem. I had like 5 vacuum leaks, Fixed those, sea foamed the engine changed the temp sensor, I put some NGK V-fire plugs, and some delco wires on. It had one wire with a melted boot. Ran great for about 2 days. Now it has abad 02 sensor. Oh well 1 thing at a time.
