  • Flushing the clutch hydraulic system.

how is it done? My fluid is black and getting sludgy. It has the original clutch from 98 and I don't want it going bad because of the hydraulic system...

just loosen your bleed screw on the slave cylinder and keep running fluid through until the old stuff is flushed out. Weird that your clutch fluid is getting dirty though...

BTW the slave bleeder is under the car. It's sticking out of the tranny on the driver's side. Make sure you have someone pumping the clutch to get all the fluid out. Then when you put the new fluid in, you'll have to bleed it a bunch to get all the air out of the system. Otherwise your clutch will feel spongy and won't engage properly.

You do it just like you bleed/flush brakes..it's pretty easy. Just get some high quality DOT3 brake fluid (I'd recommend Valvolene Syn power brake fluid, it's not too expensive and is rated at 502F dry/ 360F wet). Stick a rubber hose (3/8" ID i think) over the top bleeder valve so it drains into a container when you open it and not all over the transmission/flywheel area. Remove as much of the old fluid out of the reseviour (suck it up with vacuum bleeder or turkey baster) then fill the reseviour with fresh new fluid before you start flushing it. The brake/clutch fluid should be flushed at least once a year, especially if the car is driven hard. Once every two years would be ok for a daily driver that isn't driven hard. It only takes about 10-15minutes of your and somebody else's time to do... unless you have a vacuum bleeder, then you can do it by yourself much faster.
