  • questions on shift kits

i'm looking for a shift kit that will give me ALOT firmer shifts, my car is a 95 3.4 automatic and its stock. Which kind of shift kit is better......and electronic shift kit improver from B&M or a "true" shift kit like a Transgo shift kit(which would be professionally installed) . Ultimately i would like my car to squeal when it shifts from 1st to 2nd lol, is this achievable w/ a stock motor, also im planning on gettin a rearend from a z28 w/ hopefully 3.73's, so hopefully that will help in the accelaration after shifts.......

The "shift improver" is junk, dont waste your time/money on it. A true shift from Transgo is sweet, I have one and love it. It really firmed up the shifts and has way less lag between shifts.

Even with a Transgo shift kit, you probably wont be able to chirp the wheels unless you do some heavy modding to the motor. I have a 3.8 and I dont even chirp the wheels (without nitrous anyway ;)). You definately wont be able to chirp the wheels if you swap the rearend with LSD and 3.73's either, although that is a very good modification to do.

No, the LSD and taller gears will make it harder to squeal the wheels. Thats the idea behind upgrading to LSD and taller gears, so you dont spin.

No, he wont. Thats the idea behind taller gears...no spinning/chirping.

Numerically higher gears give you better low end. Thats why people get them for drag racing, quicker acceleration
