I've been driving around for forever today trying to tune my car.
I drove like 80 miles to get a good scan.
My car is an A4 with 4.10 gears so I try to drive slower to make good gas mileage.
I put the 4.10s and Zexel Torsen in myself.
It hasnt been making any whining or any noises UNTIL TODAY.
(I've been driving my 4.10s for at least a year and love them)
If I could do it again, for a A4 DD I would've gone with 3.73s of course.
I heard a LOUD whining sound all day today. But ONLY on Deceleration!
If I gave it just a little gas, the whine would go away completely.
I immediately knew it was the rear and that it was about to take a $hit on me.
Obviously I didnt tighten the pinion nut on tight enough or something.
I was just down the street about to park it and call it a day.
I turned the corner onto the end of my street when all of a sudden the rear end of the car swings left and right.
Makes loud Banging sounds and crap.
I knew what happened already.
I get out of the car and see a streak of oil (which wasnt much)
I look under it and my driveshaft is laying on the ground with all the parts that connect the U-joint still attatched.
The pinion nut was just laying in the street
I couldnt push the car forward, it would only go backwards.
And when I pushed it backwards I could hear popping noises inside the rear.
This is why I tell all n00bs that it is Totally worth every penny to get them "professionally" installed. I will be so happy to pay the $300 to get a shop to install my old 3.42s back in. I would do it but I dont wanna deal with it again. It is really a good deal IMHO!
I'm just worried about the tech doing it wrong.
I've heard of some techs just FEEL for backlash.
NO dial indicator, no micrometers, nothing...
But if they do it wrong I can just make them replace it right?
I feel like I have survived a battle but definately lost the war. lol
I'm gonna go cry now :)
Thanks
