I have a leak which is very minor, but a leak nevertheless. It is coming from the front of the rear where the bearing/seal meets the driveshaft U-Joint. It's only a couple of drops left on the floor whenever I back the car out of the garage. I don't have the tools to get in-depth to take it all apart and put back together properly, so anyone out there know of any specialists that deal with rearend(s)? I live in the Philadelphia PA area, and I'll gladly drive up to 50 miles to get this fixed properly. I don't want someone from Pep-Boys (or anywhere else like there) working on my car.
Thanx in advanced, -Marc.
I looked inot it briefly and it looke dlike a *****, I put it off, slowly refilling my differential then one day my rear end went out, I upgraded to a z28 rear, and have no leaks or problems.
I have a feeling getting it done will not be cheap.
Your pinion seal is leaking. It's a $10 part. What sucks is that you'll have to remove the pinion, ie, remove the gears to replace it. Put in 140W oil and see if that stops the leaks. Otherwise just live with it for now. It might cost the same as a gear change. $250 or so. For that money you can get a whole rear end.
$250.00?!?! Wow! I'll put the 140w gear oil in and try it...thanx!! If that doesn't work, I'll just put in the disk rear (out of a 94 Z28) that I bought last November. It's still sitting in my garage with a cover over it. I have just been kinda afraid of changing the rear assembly because I live by the motto, "If it isn't broke, DON'T fix it". Oh well, good summertime project coming up. Thanx for the help DOM.
-Marc
