  • Gear and LSD worth it

I'm on a low budget and im wondering if a 343, LSD, and a recalibration is worth it or even if it is a good idea to go with a 373. My 3.8 is bone stock but before the gear i will be adding intake and a cat and catback.

    Thanks

Gears + LSD will be one of your most noticeable modifications you can do. It's worth it..but it can get somewhat pricey with all the parts plus installation.

Or just buy a used rear end for 300 bucks and swap it. Much easier than doing the whole gear install kit and everything.

Yeah but how "used" it might be could be an issue

Translation for those who aren't 16 and don't speak internet:

You can put in your LSD yourself and if you know what you are doing you might even be able to do your gears too.

haha, yes LSD is easy to do on your own, if you have air tools you are in luck and it will make the job very easy. The gears might be tricky unless you have the right tools to set the backlash correctly tho

Limited slip differential and/or gear swap is NOT an "easy to do" modification!!!

I have seen professional mechanics screw it up again and again, let alone amateurs without a lift.

There is not much to it in theory, but it requires incredible finesse--you only have to be off by a hundredth of an inch to have obnoxious gear whine, problems under load... I've seen people blow their rears 3, 4, 5 times because they keep installing them themselves and screwing it up.

Unless you really, really know what you are doing, do not attempt this on your own...
