• Can my v6 rearend handle lt1 power?

Will my v6 rearend handle an lt1 w/ 6speed? I was thinking of getting a zexel torsen diff and some 3:73 gears and ta girdle. Would this be a wise choice?

The 10 bolt can handle 350-400hp comfortably, so yes you should be fine with it. Just don't shock it off the line with drag slicks and it won't break!

I think it might do it, but look around and compare prices with used v8 rears to the stuff you want to do.

I did the figureing to find it was easier/cheapr to upgrade to a v8 rear then to fix my v6 rear.

Plus 4 wheel discs are great

I have never been a fan of the rear discs on the fbodys. I have seen a lot of problems with them and drums are sooooo easy to work with anyways.

I figured that i could upgrade to nice parts and the gears that i want instead of getting a factory ten bolt and still having to upgrade gears and posi and stuff like that but maybe i am way off on this one.

There is no such thing as V8 rear. 98 V6 rear is the same as 98 V8 rear for example. Read the Drivetrain FAQ.

Yep they are the same rear end. Only difference would be the gears and the differental.

Yeah DOM and Blue Flame V6 are correct their is no difference between the different rear ends, except for the options that come with them. Such as gear ratio, LSD, Drum vs disk brakes. Other then that thier is no difference. The stock rear can handle quite a bit of HP/Torque especially if you add a new differential cover which would spread the stress over a larger portion of the housing. If you want to get a new rear end the get a moser 12 bolt. They are nearly indestructable when it comes to HP/torque power. Bullet proof casing and all, plus it comes with a warranty.
