  • Auburn 9"

I am picking up my narrowed 9" Ford rearend this afternoon and currently I have a 2.73? open ring and pinion setup and 28 spline axles.

While I was there a few days ago a guy offered me a new Auburn 9" 3.50 Posi-Trac with 28 splines for $400.00.

He said he as had it for a while and ended up not using it on the project he just completed.

    Is this a fair price?

P.S. I am not setting my car up for drag racing, just making a cruiser out of it and I do not beleive I will be getting enough power to the ground to worry about using 28 splined axles.

    Thank guys!

the 3.50 gear will help acceleration and the posi will help traction...but if you just building a cruiser and you dont want it to haul a$$ i wouldnt worry about it...

Yea, it is for the 460ci. Falcon with a C6 behind it.

The motor will only be around 375-400 horsepower as it is setup to be a low/midrange torque monster.

I am putting 12½" of rubber on the ground in the rear with street tires.

Im moving this over to drivetrain, I vote that the 3.50 will be better even fro cruising if you have an overdrive on that car of somekind - otherwise go 2.73.

well I gotta admit I don't know much about ford transmissions, but I gotta agree with Dom on this one, if you got overdrive I think the bigger axles with that 3.50 should be fine so long as you don't go with a really small tire, (which I am guessing you aren't if you are gonna put down 12 inch rumbber on it)

I personally don't see anything wrong with going with a little extra strength on stuff like that..

and even if you do go with a low profile tire on say a 15 inch rim unless you are doing alot of highway driving I think it will be fine..
