• Will any T-5 work?

Since Tremtec makes the T-5s for the mustangs and the Borg-Warner for our F-body's, will any 5 speed manual from a mustang (minus their bellhousing) bolt up to my car? I'm in need of a good, cheap used T-5 cause some of my syncros are going out(rebuild is not worth the money), and being able to look for one from both will really help my chances. Thanx in advance for any help.

I am pretty sure it won't work either, anyways, from what I here the mustang 5-speed is a eak tranny, and cannot handle much power.

I am in the same boat as you with the tranny.

What synchros are going out, I pop out of reverse as soon as I engage the clutch, and now its getting worse an worse in 2nd gear. :(

94&up 'stangs use a t45 trany,it sucks just as much as a t5,and it also has a unique bell houseing pattern,if you want a better trany look into a TKO

Mustangeater, 2nd gear is exactly what's crappin out on mine, but i'm almost positive that reverse does not have a syncro.

Just the transmission gear housing(guess thats what you call it) wouldn't bolt up to my bellhousing? or just the mustang bell housing won't bolt up to my engine? Figured their's wouldn't work for me that's why i asked "minus their bellhousing".

tranny rebuild is around ~$900-1000, and i'm pretty sure i can't get a TKO for under that :(
that's why i'm looking for a used T-5. just wanted to know if the mustang 5 speed would work so i could have more options. Isn't a new T-5 around ~$1000 anyways

Thanx guys, anybody else know?

personally? if it were me id just go around to junk yards and find a late model fbody with a t5 and pull the tranny and replace yours with it...
most of the time if u can find a really new one it wont have too many problems...

the mustang bell housing on the t45 wont even fit 93&under mustangs, Id agree with johnathan on going to the boneyard if cost is a concern

Jhonathan, wolf, going to a junkyard is what i meant by looking for one, sorry bout that. guess i'll just stick to asking them if they have 5 speed manuals from a camaro or firebird.(you ask them about a "T-5 from a F-body" and they are like WTF? )

Thanx for the info

Junkyards are the Sh!t, if it wasn't for the boneyards my car wouldn't be alive anymore. I now have a 98 3.8 from a smashed firebird in my car, a 98 t-5 from a smashed camaro, and my most recent screw up was a rearend out of a 94 camaro, peg leg piece of sh!t. I should have grabbed one from a Z. It's all good though my car still walks on little girls all day (mustangs). My moms best friend's husband is the manager at the boneyard in my area :D Thank God!
