To replace the seal only, is it necessary to disassemble the rear end?

Or will the pinion shaft come out with everything else intact?

My seal has been seeping for 3 years, and I'd love to fix it, but don't want to tear the rear end down to do it...

Changing the pinion seal will be somewhat diddicult because you will need to pull the rear yoke out to do it, which means the torque nut holding it on will have to be removed. When you take that off, you are loosening the pinion gear and you will have to retorque it when you are finished replacing the seal. If you do not retorque it correctly, your ring and pinion will wear wrong.

To add. The torque specs for the pinion nut are with the pinion in there by itself. So yes you will have to remove the differential. You won't need to do any adjusting though since you're putting back the same gears.
