  • Purchasing 3.42's

    Hello all!

This christmas I'm going to be purchasing 3.42's! Hopefully I'll feel better then my a** slow 3.08's :( ! Anyways, I found this at slp http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=64048 If i just ordered pinion and gear or whatever, that'll cost me 200 bucks right? And is that all I need to install it with( im going ot have a shop install) This will still do the ole 1 wheel burn out, but can I buy lsd at a later time and install? I'm not looking to spend over 350 smacks ( the shop said around 150 install, maybe less, my twin's girlfriends uncle owns the place! haha! maybe she IS good for something! )

    Thanks all

    woot woot go f-body's

You cant just order the gears, you have to get the differential too. Our open diff only goes up to 3.08, I think. So go ahead and get the lsd and gears. I got a posi unit with gears off of ebay for $200 shipped. As long as its GM 7.5"-7.625" you should be ok. Just make sure to get new or like new ones, nothing with a lot of miles on them. And gears are gears. I think they all pretty much wear about the same. Some are louder than others though. You can't go wrong with GM/Superior gears. Slp, motives, and richmonds are also pretty good. They may whine a little though, depending on how they're installed.

for as much money as you'll be spending on the gears carrier lsd and install you should consider just getting a new rear end off a v8 fbody. it would probably be much more cost effective

If you dont have rear brakes now then you might run into some problems. Thats what you want though. You can still just get the diff and gears and it should work out fine.

Excellent thats what I like to hear! Two things tho... I hear that the disc brakes on the back require a bigger brake something and won't work unless I buy it (bah humbug) which isn't a big deal, will I be able to slap on my drums? Also, how hard is it to pull off and put on? I have mild experience, worked in a shop over the summer, but have never done anything like this... is there a place I can look at that will provide a fellow V6er with info? I want to be sure I can do it before I spend money on it.. but it seems to be an AWESOME deal! thanks all! woooot woooot!

you need a bigger ABS reluctor ring, the old one is about 1/2 the size u need, the sensor just completely misses it, and u cant drive the car at all w/o it (the brakes are AWFUL)
