  • Grinding Noise

When at a stop and in drive and I rev up to to about 1600 RPM I hear a real bad grinding noise from what I believe is the differential. I also hear a bad metal on metal sound when I turn the car to the left real hard. I had to take the car in to the dealer to get my rear pinion seal replaced so maybe they f*cked something up. Any help is appreciated.

If it's a 5 speed and you are stopped, your differential can't possibly make any noise by revving. Automatic it is somewhat unlikely also.

I'm thinking the gears are slipping past....which would be real bad....but now I think its something else.

              Hey,

Well it very well could be your fly wheel, if its an auto, or flux plate if it is stick. I have a 1999 V6 Camaro and I was hearing a strange sound from the bell. Turns out that my fly wheel is cracked!!! You could check it yourself, but you need to get the car on a lift and check it. On the frt of the bell is a black plate that has two bolts on the upper sides. Take the one on the passenger side off and pull in forward. Then you'll need a 21mm ( I think ) to turn the engine over by hand. Have someone turn the engine as you look in at the fly wheel. If it is cracked, the crack will be toward the inside of the fly wheel.

              Good Luck!!! ;)
