  • Price quote sound right?

I was quoted from a mechanic (A very reliable one) $255 labor to change out my transmission (my 2nd gear syncro is f'd up). Then I asked about fixing my rear main seal while the trannys off and he said $15 labor. Of course I have to come up with the tranny, but that's another topic. I was also quoted $250 from a transmission shop to swap out the tranny. But, of course, they don't rear main seals.

Does that sound like a reasonable rate? I paid about $300 for a brand new clutch installed.

The labor guide I am looking at right now says 6.8-7 hours for a R&I O/H of the transmission assembly. If you were quoted $255 for that, I would take it, that is one hell of a deal $36.42/hr is good, seeing as how we charge $69.80 for our trans dept. But again, I don't know if thats what they were quoting to do particularly.

All he is doing is takeing out my old tranny + clutch set, switching the clutch set to the new tranny, and putting the new one in. Price sound about right?
