• Are all T-5s the same? Please Help!

Was searching Ebay Motors yesterday and I coudn't find a single T-5 that specifically said it came out of a 4th Gen V6 f-body. They either came out of a Ford V8 or 3rd Gen f-body.

BORG WARNER FORD T-5 W/C 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION Seller says this will NOT work.

T-5 Camaro Transmission Seller says he doesn't think it will fit a 4th Gen.

MUSTANG 5.0 T-5 TRANSMISSION Seller says this will work.

This one seems like it would work the best:
5-speed camaro tranny Seller thinks this will work.

Can someone tell me which, if any, of these I could use?

4th gen camaros use 2 different styles
93-99 used Borg warner
00-02 used Tremec

They do fit each other though.

Borg-Warner = Tremtec
Tremtec bought out the Borg-Warner name. Same tranny, different name stamped on it. That's not what I'm asking, but thanks.

If you check each auction you'll see that they're either from a 3rd Gen V8 f-body or a 5.0L V8 Mustang. T-5 may just refer to the casing, and not the actually gears in the tranny (meaning the casing is the same but the gears might be different ratios) BUT I don't know, that is basically what I'm trying to figure out.

Thanks wolf, but do I really need the bellhousing? Doesn't it come off? Or are you saying that my bellhousing won't bolt up to the tranny?

Keep the knowlegde coming so I can figure out exactly what I can use, thanks!

Just so you know. 96 through 02 have different bellhousings. Well, I'm not sure about engines being different, but trans bolt up is. At least for autos. Starter mount and electronics changed over in 98 or 99 for autos. Maybe more then once. I've talked to tranny shops but got nowhere. They know, but for some reason don't want to give me any info. I'll probably publicly bother FLP since they sponsor my local club, MFBA.

Even though this applies to autos, it just shows that little things can change and make it totally incompatible. I would be safe and get a gurantee in writing that it will fit before buying.

I'm leaning toward bidding on the 5-speed camaro tranny, but I'm gonna call the transmission shop that recently changed my clutch and ask them. Thanks for the replies.

you could also try asking a good salvage yard, we have one here in Oklahoma that is completly camaro's and firebirds, that's who i usually ask. But you also have to make sure the guy know's what he's talking about. I was gonna do the same thing with mine though, i saw an auto out of a 95 camaro A4, and it would be cool to buy it and build in the garage a little at a time, kinda to have a back up that i did myself. Would be nice if it would fit.

Noone around here specializes in f-bodies. I already check quite a few salvage yards and they want around $700-$800 for used ones. Cheapest was $400 but it had a whole lot of miles on it. Figured Ebay would be cheaper, just have to find the right tranny first
