I'm lookin into buying a 3.73 gear and a posi trac differential but i dont know how many splines there are on my rear axle...i know i can find out by taking off the rear axle cover and count but is there an easier way becuase i dont want to take my rear end apart until i get my new parts? BTW, I have the 3.4 w/Auto.

If I were you man I would call a GM dealer. I mean the parts people should be able to tell you I would think. I mean if you can order factory axles though them they should be able to tell you what spline they are. Man that's weird that they were not able to tell you. Well, I'm not 100% sure but I would almost be willing to bet that we have 28 spline axles. But I'll try and find out for you to be sure.

Well, 94firebird I looked though all of my service manuals I use at work (and use for my self at home on my car). I came up with nothing. Now I did go to a salvage yard that I know of Trans Am Creations and they have rear ends that you can buy. For the 93-97 10-bolt rears they say that they have 28 spline axles. Sorry man but I think that's the best I can do to help out. Here is the link to the page I was referring to. Trans Am Creations. Scroll about 1/2-2/3 way down the page and you will see what I'm talking about OK. Hope this helps.
