• Anyone install 4.10's? I did and they are 100% silent.????

CamaroZach, Pro Stock John and I installed slighly used 4.10's and a new torsen LSD in the car yesterday.

The install was straight forward... the usual pinion issues. PITA but can be done without air tools.

Anyway, I re-used ALL the stock shims (from a 3.23 open froma 3.4 M5). The pattern looked fine and backlash was perfect. I put in 85w140 synthetic fluid.

The kicker is, they don't whine at ALL!!! They are one of the most silent gears I have ever hard.

Perhaps the differential needs to be shimmed more so that the ring gear is closer to the pinion?

What do you guys think?

BTW.. Hopefully I'll be hitting the track next weekend on nitto's.. lookin for new bests NA.. then the weekend after might be with N20.

I have 4.10:1 gears. The only time I have any whine is when I let off the gas and coast. Did you have to shave off some of the paddle that holds the ring in place? Since the gear was so thick I had to shave off about 1/16" to make it hold in there. SLP makes the paddle for 4.10:1 gears but I didn't want to spend the money on it. I think if I had just bought it I would have no gear whine at all.

I did not have to grind anything.. I even brought my dremel with expecting to grind it.

http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...&SHOWEMAIL=Off

That shows a better picture.. its more of a thrust block. It really just holds the axles out.

The ring gear went on fine. I would think the contact would be between the block tip and the pinion.. however there was no contact at all..

My LSD is very new... months old.. perhaps they switched the design print. ???

Then that means you installed them correctly. Let us know if your topend suffers with the 4.10s. I don't see why it would, keep us posted.

I am keeping this short.

After careful analasys, they are not 4.10's.. they are 3.42's.. I bought 4.10's but was given a different gear.

I am a very not happy person right now.

No, actually for the past month or two he's been running on my old 3.23 open differential. My car has his 3.73 LSD rear in it.

I remember having 410's in my bird.
They were pretty fun 1st and second gear but after that top end suffered.
I lost to a honda civic and a bus top end once :(
Keith, I'm sorry you got screwed but I think you may want less gear, it seems to be working bottle fed.
N/A though seems to like more gear, hence your 13.8
Well, keep us posted.
I never had any whine.

You do know you will need et streets for 4 10's and nitrous right?
And you do know that both you and I will need 12 bolts this winter :D

I don think you will need a 12 bolt, the stock 10 bolts hold up to well over 400 hp on ls1, i doubt you will have to much more than 400 if you even have 400, no disrepect intended. Keith what are your plan on programming shift point when you do get 4.10? are you doing programming for yourself? please help us out alot of use are depending onyou programming

the stock rear has nothing to do about holding up HP it is TQ and when u throw on ET streets and have TQ numbers of like 400 on there and dead hook all the time somethign has to give and it s gonna be the axel i think 12sec knows he has had a few go south on him.

Magnus, How do you plan on turning off the top speed limiter when you get the 4.10's installed? Also how are you going to correct shift points? As fast as your car is going right now you will be having a pretty HIGH MPH by the end of the track. If you dont remove the top speed limiter wont it slow you down?

I want to do a gear swap also maybe 3.73 but I dont know how to remove the limiter. What are your plans for this?
