• Total cost of A4 to M5 conversion?

I'm wondering how much it would cost to have my tranny converted to an M5 instead of my current A4. My car gave me a Tranny Slip code so I'm going to have to have my transmition worked on. I want to switch to an M5 so I figured why spend the money to get my A4 repaired when I'm going to convert later on anyways?

How much will it cost to buy the M5 transmition and how much can I expect to spend having it installed? I have a relative who can do the work for me but it will still cost.

I believe all M5's come with a 3.23 or higher rear-end so would it be best to get the tranny, pcm, and rear-end out of a wrecked camaro? And how much can I expect to pay for taking the tranny pcm and rear end out of a wrecked camaro?

Also, what years will be compatible with my car? Do I have to get everything from another 96?

Thanks in advance for your help.

ps: A list of all the things and their relative costs would be most helpful. :D

Do a search for posts by camaro_zach.

He did this swap and has posted at least once what it cost him and what was involved.

His site has pictures, and description. If your lucky and do the labor yourself, ~800.

You'd be better off just improving your automatic tranny- it would be a lot less expensive (I guess it also depends on how much it would cost to fix yours,) the A4 is easier to drive, and as you make more mods the difference between an A4 and a 5spd becomes a lot less...bottom line: having an A4 will not prevent your car from being fast..
my 2 cents: good luck if you decide to convert.

i do know that the trannys swap pretty easy but my biggest question would be getting the clutch peddle in the cab..... after all the work swapping trannys it seems that would be easy but who knows.

i swear everyone drives an auto these days.. good to hear we might get another manual guy :D
