  • Bump when stepping on gas

If I'm moving and let my foot off the accelerator and then step on it again, there is a bump from somewhere like something is moving and the shifter moves back a little. Anyone know what this could be?

Does it do it any on take-offs when you don't let off and get back on it? Sounds like either your tranny mount is worn out, or possibly the front u-joint.

This happened to my car, except it was a very, very loud bump. The transmission mount was loose. That was it- all the mechanic did was tighten it, and all was better!

Hey my car has the rear thump too. But it happens when I slow down and come to a stop. The previous owner told me it was like a left control arm bushing or something, I dunno. But my car makes that little thunk too, maybe all I hafta do is tighten a screw also, you think so?

It's hard to tell, but it feels like it's coming from right below the shifter. I was driving yesterday and was in second. I put the clutch in and put it in neutral, coasted, and put it back in second. It made a grinding noise that happens with reverse once in a while and bounced back toward neutral. It happened a couple minutes later with third, but hasn't done it since.

The shifter isn't very smooth either, but the Firebird is smooth. Could it be a loose tranny mount causing the rough shifter? It's a little rough going from gear to gear, but I can move back and forth between neutral and any gear smoothly as long as I don't shift to another gear in between. If I switch gears and then shift back to another gear it's rough the first time, but then I can shift repeatedly between the gear and neutral smoothly.

I just switched to a polyurethane transmission mount. Oh my god, I love it so much. The shifter (and transmission) doesn't move AT ALL. It doesnt go up or down, and it barely vibrates.

The down side- the car is louder on the inside, but only above about 3,000 rpm. And you can feel every rev. I LOVE IT!

It feels like I bolted the engine directly to the frame (even though it is only a trans mount!)

For 20 bucks in parts and 20 in labor, I wish I did this lon ago!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add- the aftermarket transmission mounts are too sort, and I can go into second or fourth gear, because the tranny sits too low. Im gonna get a spacer plate made, though, and it should be better.
