  • Zexel Torsen Posi help

Well I went to get my posi in today, but the job couldn't be finished. This is going to be hard to explain, but I might as well give it a try. My stock differential has a Differential Pinion Gear Shaft. My Torsen doesn't, it has some other thing that goes in the center of the carrier. I'm not sure what this thing does, but I think it helps flow the oil around. It can go in 2 different ways (one way, and it can flip to go another way). Does anyone know which way is the correct way? Anyone know where I can get a Torsen breakdown to refer too?
    Thanks.

in the very center of a torsen is like a 1" wide x 3 1/2" long block called a "Thrust Block"
it is to keep the c-clips locked in place so your axles dont fly out.
the "Thrust Block" is held in by a "Retainer Pin".
    I have pictures somewhere...

It's been a long time since I've seen one, but it may go either way.

Thanks for the help guys, so what your saying is that it will work either of the 2 ways? Doesnt matter?

Just look at it and see. If it's exactly the same on both sides and the hole for the bolt is centered, it won't matter.

yes, it is different, it is designed to go in only 1 way. but whatever.
1 side of the thrust block is angled.
so is one side of the differential is angled
                Line up the pieces

What kinda gears are you putting in? if its 4.10s you might have a problem depending on if you have a 1-piece thrust block or 2-piece SLP kit TB

I just looked at one I have here. It fits in either way. I have put a couple Zexels in before and never paid attention to which way it went in, so it must work either way. The function of this part is to prevent the axle shafts from shifting inward and the C-clips from coming off, and which way it is inserted doesn't appear to affect this.

This is the only thing holding you up from finishing?

This is the only thing holding me up, and there is a certain way in which it goes in. I need to finish up tomorrow morning, so I hope to find the answer soon. Thanks to everyone though.

You could contact the manufacturer Toyoda at info@torsen.com

I don't see anything on their website at www.torsen.com concerning the alignment of the block.

SLP makes a 2-piece block for use of the Torsen differential with 4.10 gears. Their machined blocks do not have those same angled channels or hole as the stock piece.
                        http://www.slponline.com/img/part_img/64002-1.jpg

I find it hard to believe Toyoda would manufacture this part that could potentially be installed one of two ways, and only one way would function correctly.

My mechanic had it finished for me by the time I got over there this morning. I don't know which way he put the thrust block in. I was just happy to do a real burnout, right in front of a cop too.
