I get about 21 mpg as well on 3.42s
I don't know what I gained in the quarter as opposed to 3.23s but I do run a 15.44 at 91.78 mph now with my mods in the sig.

Have you checked what GU code you have now?? And are you going from .42's to .73's??
I know that the 3.42's with the 5 spd is very good more all around use. Thou when on the hwy at about 80 the drone does get to be a bit much ;) Cranking away at almost 3K rpms.

I have no troubles on the highway, honestly I don't even noitce a difference between this and my stock 3.23s, there is one but barely noticeable. Just less waaaaay up high accelration but I mean most my races are in the 1.4, not 80-110.

3k though isn't to awful far away from what the 3.23's do. I will have to look again but if I remember correctly it was roughly 2.8
I've got a 95 3.4 M5 w/ 3.73 LSD and it's awesome. Acceleration is beautiful. Highway does kinda suck, at around 80 i'm at like 3k+ rpms and if i'm really in a hurry, it'll sit at 3500 rpms. Other than that, it's cool.
Only down side is highway mileage. To me it's a no-brainer, you should go for it. Acceleration down low and on the highway is way better plus, to pass you can leave it in 5th and still have pretty good pull. It you need more, drop it down into 4th or 3rd.
On a side note, just today I was sitting at a light at an intersection where about 100 yards out the right lane needs to merge to the left (I was in the left lane). A red late model Taurus pulls up next to me on the right and I just figured, no problem, I'll just beat this guy out to the single lane. Well the light turns green and we take off side by side. I babied it out of the hole to keep from spinning the tires and proceeded to cut a great 1-2 shift (a nice CHIRP!) When he had to cut over he was a good 1-1/2 car lengths behind me. I was a little surprised that he kept up as well as he did. Later on, when he passed me in a left turn lane when I was going straight, I saw that it was an SHO!
Moral of the story...when lined up at a light you want to have the pull of 3.73s!

Went ahead and moved my starter wire from the back, to the front again since it had no effect on my drain on the battery. Also made me nervous driving...
