  • Questions about gears?Help me out

    I dont have a whole lot of knowledge on gears and what is needed to change them.
    What all parts will i need to change to 3.42's in my 99 V6 A4?
    How much should it cost?
    Please help me out, any info will help

    SLP's kit includes everything you need. You won't find better quality at a better price.

    Swapping gears is straight forward, however the problem most people run into, is setting the lash which is a critical measurment. Measured in thousandths of an inch. You need to have the right tools.

    If you have a shop do it for you, on average you can expect to pay about 600 bucks.

      I like really like having hookups on things I can't do myself. My mechanic will do it for 50 bucks on side for me, but I won't change my gears.

        So if I get the SLP 3.42 gears and the SLP gear installation kit thats all I need?
        I won't be doing this myself I'll be taking it to a mechanic by the way

          I wouldn't do it without installing a LSD. But yeah. If he'll install it (and knows what he's doing) then there you go.
